AP Spanish Unit 1: An Amazing Start!

AP Spanish Unit 1 is called Familias en diferentes sociedades. The AP Spanish Language and Culture required units can be taught in any order, bur many teachers start with this one because the theme of family is one that all students are familiar with. If you are new to teaching AP Spanish, I would like the show you how I teach this unit! The goal is to save other teachers the time and stress that often accompanies a brand new prep.

When I first taught this course in 2014, the College Board had just changed the course and the AP Exam around. The teacher who was teaching it retired, and I was left on my own to figure everything out and create everything from scratch. I was astounded by how much time I had to spend to plan lessons, find authentic resources to go with my ideas, and then create activities to check for comprehension. It was EXHAUSTING. And relentless.

I didn’t know there were teachers who made and shared and sold resources that could help me on their websites and on marketplaces like TPT. I WSH I had known. If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my 24 years as a teacher, it’s that sometimes your time is worth more than anything else.

A few summers ago, I joined the ranks of other talented teacher authors and began sharing and selling my AP resources (with permission from College Board). Though these resources are not affiliated with College Board, they are created to teach the AP Spanish course.

Maybe you don’t! I rarely, if ever, write a blog post like this, which so clearly highlights a resource I have for sale.
