This one creates learning opportunities for students regarding the ways in which Christmas is celebrated in Spanish-speaking countries. It’s a big part of their culture, and there are some really interesting differences! Students love the competition against other groups, and if you can, supercharge the fun with making your last clue a place they need to go to in your school! For some reason- leaving the classroom is such a huge and exciting treat for them!

If you are getting ready to experience a long winter, chase the blues away with some winter-themed activities! It’s fun to break up the normal curriculum and go off the beaten path once in a while! My students love these winter-themed activities!
20 different scenarios with a winter theme: students use language creatively to chat with a partner or do a free write. I use these every day for my warm-up. But they can be used as a class-long speaking or writing day or even as an assessment! Helpful vocab list included!
Winter Group Challenge Writing:
My students LOVE these! They learn a lot from each other in terms of syntax, time frames, vocab and how to correctly conjugate in context. But we all love them because they encourage creativity, and the ideas they come up with are so funny! I award prizes for reasons I make up, like… best teamwork, or most creative!
Winter Speaking Game: Snowball Fight
Students work in pairs or groups, and compete against each other. They have a number of “snowballs” with a winter-themed word on each. They have to use their snowball words to create a story. Their opponent times them to see how many they can work into their story! And there are so many ways to vary this up! Students choose their own snowballs, or their opponent chooses for them… it’s so fun! Helpful vocab list included!
