Fun Online Games For Spanish Class
Gimkit
Gimkit allows teachers to create games where students earn currency instead of points. They can use their “money” for other reasons in the game, like to boost their score. Students can play on their own devices live with the class, or they can be played on their own.
Blooket
Blooket has a lot of different games teachers can play with students as a whole class game. You need to upload vocabulary, and then the games will load themselves. You can change the amount of time the game will last. I find this helpful when I want to play as a warm-up before a quiz, or to fill a bit of time before lunch!
Kahoot
Kahoot offers multiple choice questions that are timed. Students score point for getting the answers right and for their speed in answering. After each question, the game shows who the leaders are. Most students find this very motivating! You can create your own games or you can search their bank, or share with a colleague!
Online Games For Spanish Class That Help Students Study
Duolingo
Duolingo has some fame as an app that can help people learn a new language. The lessons are set up in very short segments, and designed for student success. You earn badges for each lesson you complete, and the app will keep track of the days you practice and award badges for a streak! As students advance, the tasks available become more involved. I remember wondering who my son was talking to while he was taking a bath… but he was listening to a story on Duolingo!
Quizizz
Quizizz offers a free (limited) plan and a paid plan. You can design content delivery and assessment with up to 18 kinds of questions! Your design can be adapted to almost anything. There are also lots of ways to differentiate and customize, like selecting certain students who have access to translation or audio instructions. A lot of these question types will auto correct, and there are the motivators like a leader board and power ups.
Conjuguemos
Conjuguemos offers a lot of different activities to practice vocabulary, verb conjugation, other grammar elements and listening comprehension. I especially like the listenings, which consist of themed videos with native speakers. They are short and slow, and come with comprehension questions for students! You can use this site without an account!
Study Spanish
Study Spanish has a robust list of topics for students to read about and then to practice. I find this useful for students who need extra practice with verb endings, for example. I also find it really great for my AP level students who need to review and refine points of grammar they’ve learned in the past.
Quizlet Live
Quizlet has a lot of games and activities for students trying to learn new vocabulary. Some require students to type their answers, or use flashcards, or match. These work great for giving students choice when working on their own. Quizlet live is a whole group activity. The game puts students into teams, and they have to identify vocabulary words. It’s a race, and students become VERY involved in the game!

World Wall has so many different games you can create from your list of vocabulary! I love this site! There are 18 different games and activities you can create with this site from crosswords to quiz shows to complete the sentence and more! My students love the Whack-a-mole game! Boom Cards
Boom Cards is a marketplace, sort of like TPT. All of the resources are set up like decks of flashcards, but the variety of things people create with them is limitless! There are fill in the blank, multiple choice, uncover the picture, reading comprehension, listening comprehension, and more! You can buy “decks” or download freebies.
I love Boom Cards because you can have a free account, and students cannot move on to the next card until they get the answer right. It’s fast and entertaining for students. I find this the perfect way to practice or review when they are bored of other ways!
